Glenn Chin who built a name and reputation for pioneering marketing tactics in the gaming business has left his position at Nike to return to EA Sports the place he helped really build into a culturally relevant powerhouse in the 90’s. Chin will return to Redwood City, CA as the VP, Brand Marketing leaving a Global Brand Director position at Nike where he was a part of the USA basketball Beijing Olympics launch as well as the development of the Apple + Nike/Nike Plus shoe launch. Chin comes back to the EA brand at a time when the brand is in dire need to return to its roots of being a powerhouse cultural brand. He spent 13 years at EA before leaving for Portland and Nike. During the time that he has been away the brand has gone through its ups and downs not to mention the gaming business overall. His experience at Nike and understanding of the EA brand will be much welcomed.

Being the “cultural anthropologist” I am, Brazil for me was also about getting to know the people. I’m really glad that I built in time during my trip to get to know the country and the scene. None of this could have happened without the planning and support of Suemyra Shah (NYC) who has deep tentacles and crew in both the Sao Paulo and Rio scene. The experienced made me feel blessed to be able to do what I do for a living and to have the opportunity to share my experience globally. I know, I know Black History Month ended, although I overheard a clearly clueless guy ask this woman, “isn’t that in March.” I mean, how do you not know it is Black History Month, the marketing alone is everywhere. I digress, so I was pleasantly suprised when I received my package from Nike last week with a fresh pair of Black History Month AF1’s. My letter read that these shoes are the “4th Edition of the Black History Month Shoe” and that this particular shoe was honoring “Dr. Carter G. Woodson and the Origins of Multiculturalism.” The earthly mud colors and inspirational Carter G. Woodson words lasered onto the sock liners make this shoe a show piece. The letter was signed by my new (the other being Howard White) Nike “Uncle” Larry Harper (VP, US Regions). Somehow I feel like Nike’s V.S. had something to do with this as well. Whoever sent me these shoes I say thank you and Happy Black History Month.
